Bosch Packaging Technology was awarded “Design Team of the Year” at the British Engineering Excellence Awards. This award is a recognition of the great team work, support and challenges met by Bosch engineers to create the Kliklok ITC (Integrated Topload Cartoner).
The judges chose the talented ITC team for creating a single machine that combines three packaging processes: Form topload style cartons or trays, automatically load wrapped products into them, and close the cartons using hot melt glue – using one operator and one HMI. The result is the Kliklok ITC – a flexible and compact integrated topload cartoner with a competitive speed and generous carton size range, ideally suited to the bakery and confectionery market to pack products like cereal bars, chocolate bars, flow wrapped biscuits and muffins.
Many months of hard work, dedication and effort went into this intense development project, with the combined skills of Bosch in Ecublens, Switzerland and Bristol, UK. The challenges of combining two different countries, two different languages, two different skill sets, all came together with one goal: to produce a unique and innovative machine, which was successfully introduced to the market at Interpack in May earlier this year.
In assessing the entries, the judges wanted to see how the team was composed and evidence of how its members interacted to meet its budget and project milestones. In a fiercely contested category the judges were impressed by the ITC team’s good, honest and practical engineering, delivering an impressive result.
Graham Wheat and Pete Hyde of the ITC team went along to the awards ceremony held in London on 5th October, and came home with the well-deserved trophy. Well done to the whole team!
